Professional dog trainer and longtime foster volunteer Andrea Arden takes us through this “Nipping and Mouthing” training session with her foster puppy Dylan. One of the challenges of being a foster or adoptive puppy parent is teaching your puppy how to interact with people politely, and inhibit their tendency to nip or mouth at people, their leash, or other things that aren’t toys. One thing that can make a big difference is providing your dog with chew toys that you can fill with treats. This helps your puppy to redirect their behavior to an appropriate toy they can chew.
