Professional dog trainer and longtime foster volunteer Andrea Arden takes us through her third “Impulse Control” training session with her foster puppy Dylan. Learning impulse control helps to keep dogs from doing things like jumping when greeting people, pulling their leash, rushing through doorways, and more. All you need is a tasty treat, your marker word, and you can teach your dog that the best way to get what they want is through patience! Once your dog has gone through a few impulse control training sessions like Dylan and begun to get the hang of it, you can try to build up your dog’s understanding of the skill and what it means to be patient.
